In my opinion exercise and task specific training are integral parts of a remedial socialization program. First, remember that exercise and anxiety have an inverse relationship; as the exercise intensity level goes up, the anxiety level goes down. Secondly, by giving the dog a physical pattern to repeat, we are able to keep him focused on the successful completion of the pattern while gradually increasing the level of environmental stressors; the net result being gradual desensitization. Once the dog starts to become desensitized, he's ready to move on to counter conditioning.
