- Human habits, whether haram or not, are something we must pay attention to - Looking at ourselves and identifying habits, and addressing them - Moving away from habits is considered a Hijra - The issue of E-Cigarrettes - Are they allowed in Islam? - Composition of traditional cigarettes vs e-cigs - Smoke vs vapors - Any rulings about smoking in the Qur'an or Hadith? - Historical timeline of rulings on smoking - 3 Prevalent Rulings today on smoking - The Qu'ran and the Sunnah may not specifically address every new issue of this world, but the overall guiding principles can be applied to everything in life - Shisha effects on your health - Humanitarian appeals of Canadians to help the Gazan ill and wounded, which was rejected by the Canadian Federal Government - Attempts to bring 100 Gazan children to Canada for medical treatment, backed by 5 major hospitals, and government officals - Not only were they rejected, but the official statement labeled them as 'victims of Hamas', rather than the truth - Toronto Star points: Does the contempt towards Hamas extend to non-combatants? Are they worried about embarrasing Israeli supporters? Are they saying that treating Gazan kids are an affront to children elsewhere? - Artillery is sent for other communities when it suits an agenda - SheikhNimr being sentenced to death, the lack of outcry on an international level "Hijrah can be of 3 types. We know of the common one, moving to a new homeland. The 2nd type is the intellectual hijrah, such as a conversion to Shi'ism. Then there is the spiritual hijrah, where we look at ourselves, identify, and abandon a habit. Or 'moving away' from it." "People say where do these rulings come from? there are no hadith or ayat about it. There are general rulings which can be applied to new issues. Like in Sura Baqarah, God says 'Do not put yourselves, with your own hands, into destruction.' That is a general principle from Qur'an. In the past smoking/tobacco was not known as a source of harm, but now we know. You take this ayat, which is not new, applying it here in the form of smoking." "Ayatullah Hujjat, was known to be a chain smoker, in the days when the effects of smoking were not understood. He fell ill, and was told his respiratory problems were directly linked to his smoking. He replied 'What is the use of lungs if I can't smoke?' After being told it is a serious issue, he asked 'Is this your expert opinion saying that smoking will be harmful for me?' When the doctor replied yes, look at his determination. He immediately said 'I quit'. "When we talk about e-cigarettes or shisha, the ruling is the same as cigarettes. If the harm is known and you are convinced, it will be haram. The ruling wouldn't change because of the different means or manifestation." "We should not be slaves of our desires, we should control our desires and temptations." "A humanitarian appeal was made to bring 100 Gazan children to Ontario for urgent medical treatment, which received support from 5 major hospitals, the provincial government, and the health minister. However, Harpers government shrugged off the passionate gesture of Dr Izzeldin, their statement mentioning providing help for 'victims of Hamas'. Even changing the labels themselves have their own political meanings." "Is the worth of the lives of Gazan children less than children elsewhere? That's what it comes down to. "When other communities are targeted by ISIS, artillery and weapons are sent in defence. But when it was only the Shias, there was silence. Same thing in Bahrain, Saudi Arabia. The whole world complains about capital punishment, but when Sheikh Nimr is sentenced to death, there's no outcry. Ali is still mazlum today through his followers."
