American auto makers and the newspaper industry are examples of two sectors that did not anticipate changes in consumer behavior and we not able to innovate early enough.

Incubation must occur continuously on a short-term, near-term and long-term basis to develop new products and services that can provide incremental or radical innovations. Companies that are capable and focus on innovation are likely to prosper, Bills said.
