Abdul Quader Mollah, Bangladesh opposition leader was hanged last Friday in a jail, in the capital Dhaka. The Supreme Court considered him guilty of several war crimes committed during the 1971 war of independence from Pakistan. His original life sentence had been overturned by the Supreme Court in September, after mass protests called for him to be hanged.

Mollah is one of five opposition leaders condemned to death by Bangladesh's International Crimes Tribunal (ICT), set up in 2010 to investigate atrocities perpetrated during the 1971 conflict, in which three million people died. But for many analysts, the trial was just a way to promote political interests and eliminate the opposition leader.
Critics of the tribunal also say it has been used as a political tool by the prime minister. The Mollah's party has already said that people would revenge Mollah's execution by deepening the role of Islam in Bangladesh and called for a nationwide strike. So what was it a political or a fair trial? Has the court surrendered to the public's pressure? Which can be the implications in the elections due for next month?
