Black Brokers Forum says out of the 55 stockbroking firms registered on the JSE only 16 are black owned. And of those 16, 14 are actively practising. A lack of transformation in stock broking has been identified as one of the risks for the country's growth and job creation.
Delegates at the Association of Black Securities & Investment Professional summit in Cape Town have also lamented the failure by the sector to allow meaningful participation by black stock brokers in the industry. The Black Brokers Forum urges asset managers to commit to meaningful allocations to black firms and adopt minimum thresholds for this. Leading stock brokers should also partner with black broking firms and pass on their expertise.
