"The best things in life are worth waiting for" is a quote that usually precedes you getting something good, unless it's written on her ring, in which case it means you're not getting anything. Totally putting out...some excellent French-inspired food following a tremendous wait: The Pickled Heron.

From a dating duo of chefs who originally met while working a pre-Ripert Ritz-Carlton, three-years-in-the-making Heron's a BYO with French bistro charm thanks to warm, pumpkin-hued walls and restored antiques including 100yr-old church pew banquettes and a '50s-era fridge, the kind that can survive multiple bombs, like atomic, and Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. The menu's still getting tweaked, but you can expect starters ranging from moules frites in saffron, mustard, and white wine, to more intricate offerings like seared foie gras w/ figs and bread pudding, escargot en croute w/ golden raisins, and a homemade charcuterie platter stocked w/duck prosciutto, pork rillettes, and a country pate that...just ran home. Damn you, city pate! While not as cool that thing Kit Cloudkicker used on TaleSpin!, their skate wing is way more edible, as it's pan-seared w/ roasted beets and gala apples, while other mains include braised short rib w/ potato puree and mushroom ragout, and a plate of sea scallops w/ chanterelles and a red wine jus.

For those weekend cravings, Heron's got all-day hours for a launching-on-New-Year's Sunday brunch, because the best things in life are worth waiting for, so in the meantime you should probably just get sauced at brunch.
