Greetings! Being a family is a lot of different things to a lot of people. Everyone has a different family unit and a different dynamic in which they exist. That is true for every single one of us whether we have children or not, whether we are single or married, whether we share a home with our parents or our adult children, every single family is walking a different path. Sometimes that path is smooth and other times it is rocky and filled with potholes.

I grew up in a blended family. My father died when I was 10 and my younger brother was 5. My mother remarried when I was 11. The experience was different for each one of us. My experience is different from my brothers because of our age and we each assimilated (or not) into a blended family. I think that the experience was much harder for me. I was very headstrong (and still am) I don't like change, but now realize that it is better to accept it and move on rather than try to cling to what is not there.

Fast forward to me as an adult. I have been through a divorce. I have two wonderful children. Rick has been through a divorce and has a beautiful daughter who lives with her mom. We are a blended family and for all pitfalls and joys that this may involve, we sometimes cannot do it on our own. We did not realize this until this summer when we had an emotional SHTF in our own lives.

Being able to have a counselor available to talk things out with was a real Godsend for us, especially for Rick, who I worried about during that particular time this year. Diane was a wonderful resource to help us through that time and be a guiding light for us during our summer, that was filled with emotion.

If you are a blended family and you think you need help getting through a rough patch. Please consider contacting Diane. Check out Today's Modern Family website. There are lots of good resources and articles to help you if you are having a tough time. There are also great quick and easy recipes for busy nights.

I have also been asked to be a contributor to the Today's Modern Family website and will be providing exclusive content beginning with this month and I plan on featuring a series of recipe videos concentrating on Thanksgiving for 2 because the holidays should not be ignored simply because our kids went for Thanksgiving with their other parent. We also need to celebrate, create joy and love our lives when we are apart from our kids.

I hope that you will check out the Today's Modern Family website. I hope that if you are going through a dark time, you will consider reaching out. Diane can help, over the phone or via skype.
