Stocking impoundments with barramundi fingerlings is a labour intensive process requiring many volunteers and dedicated anglers. I was lucky enough to be invited to the biggest release of stocked barramundi fingerlings in Townsville’s Ross River Dam back in August 2018. About two years planning and fund raising went into the venture and there are a few more steps to be taken before the dam restocking is ready to be fully funded by the SIP scheme. SIP stands for (stocked impoundment permit) and is a scheme by which anglers pay a yearly permit to allow fishing in all the stocked impoundments. The permit pays for the breeding and release of new fingerlings each year.
