Gregor Vulturius is a research associate at the Stockholm Environment Institute, an international independent research institute promoting sustainable development. Gregor was born in Berlin and has lived for extended periods in Italy, New Zealand and Ecuador, before moving to Sweden four years ago. He has gained a B.A. in Sociology and Geography from Martin Luther University, Germany and a M.A. in Spatial Planning and Development from Umeå University, Sweden. Gregor has also attended courses at the University of Nordland, Norway and the Higher School of Economics, Russia. He has published on the issues of climate change adaptation, science communication, flood risk management as well as insurance and has attended a large number of academic conferences and UN expert workshops.

In 15 minutes, Gregor explains what he had learned in the field and apply that to improving scientific communications to the public. Climate change is a critical issue, but in order to make effective changes scientific findings must be shared with the greater public in a way that is easy to understand. Gregor makes the argument that scientists can bridge the gap with the public if they follow five key steps.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
