South Africa's most powerful nano-satellite has successfully been launched into space. In 2013 the Cape Peninsula University of Technology made history with the launch of ZACUBE-1. The satellite, developed by the French South African Institute at CPUT, will monitor marine traffic along the South African coast and also detect forest and veld fires.
