(6 Jul 1944) While the Second Army was at close grips with Rommel's main force near Caen, the Americans were winning a great victory in the Cherbourg peninsular. ® ® Cherbourg, the first big city in France to be liberated, was handed over to the French in a brief ceremony. Then work began in the surrounding areas rounding up prisoners. ® ® Film just released shows the new Scorpion tank in action. It has been fitted with a flail of chains which revolve at high speed lashing the ground exploding mines and clearing a safe passage. ® ® The advance forward continues through the woods and small villages of France.
