NewsWatch 2008: True or false?  Farm subsidies are contributing to American obesity by making fattening foods cheap.  False, according to the latest research by UC Davis economists. Economist Dan Sumner says 60 to 70 percent of the federal farm bill's expenditures pay for nutrition programs because food stamps and the women and infants and school lunch programs are part of the farm bill.
