CINCINNATI (WKRC) - If the warmer air and humidity is not helping your skin, maybe you need a few nutrients to “feed your face”.

Did the wicked winter take a toll on your skin? Never fear, summer's here! But that doesn't mean a daily dose of Vitamin D will clear up things the same way some common topical treatments will according to Skin Specialist Wendy Flynn.

Her favorite treatment is what's called “microderm abrasion”.

It's about a hundred dollars and you can get it done on your lunch hour with no-downtime.

“It's a form of gentle exfoliation, where it takes the superficial dead skin off and lets the skin breath, opens the pores up,” said Flynn.

She says open pores help skin care products soak in better.

It's also important to point out that the treatment will work for some things but not for others, so you kind of have to have some realistic expectations.

That means you have to take care of your skin from within. Flynn’s top picks for foods to feed your face include:

Foods that add hydration, such as watermelon.
Those with Vitamin C, such as oranges.
Dark green veggies that add lots of antioxidants.
Salmon makes the list
So do nuts due to the good fats
Finally, avocado.
Many of the nutrients are now part of some topical treatments too.

Many of the good skin foods are most nutritious in season.

The microderm treatments in most cases are not covered by medical insurance plans.
