During the beginning of Dec 2014, powerful ice storms covered Austria, Germany and Czech Republic in several inches of ice with near hurricane force winds. 

US media did not cover the story as Buffalo NY was experiencing 8 feet/2.7 meters of snow in three days. But at the same time many reports in news media gave stories of how 2014 is the warmest year on record from NOAA data sets. 

This is called "Zonal Censorship", reporting the news in local areas because the people can see the snow, but telling the same viewers that its warm everywhere else.
