Was the Internet invented to be a government weapon? Who invented it? Where did the idea come from? How do ideas like the Internet even happen? All this && more… in what is probably gonna be the longest video in this series BUT STICK WITH ME, in reality it’s relatively short considering the scope of what we’re gonna cover: what the internet really is && how it came to be && why most everything else u’ve read about it is wrong! ...or at least dangerously over simplified.

02:27 this quote comes from “Program or be Programmed: Ten Commands for a Digital Age” (2010) by Douglas Rushkoff, this is essential reading for anyone critically thinking about what agency means in the digital age, it’s a quick read, well worth it.

03:10 check out Andrew Blum's book "Tubes: A Journey to the Center of the Internet" for an amazing narrative portrait of the Internet's infrastructure, also check out telegeography's interactive maps http://submarinecablemap.com/

03:30 just search for "Shark attack Google cables" online

04:09 this quote comes from pg.79 of one of my favorite Internet history books "Where Wizards Stay Up Late: The Origins Of The Internet" by Katie Hafner and Matthew Lyon. Another great ( and a little shorter ) Internet History book is "A History of the Internet and the Digital Future" by Johnny Ryan
