I loved Sarah Reida's Monsterville, which was funny and scary at the same time! Like Jumaji (only with monsters), Lissa uses monster movie rules to rescue her sister from the monster world below our beds. Sarah even sent me a video thanking me for getting kids excited about reading! Her website is http://www.lissablackproductions.com and the book is at http://a.co/85AkpvK. Sarah emailed me that if you want to post questions to her about book recommendations, writing questions, or about Monsterville, she'll answer them. So comment below!
