(21 Aug 1985) QUOTE REF ISRAEL: Egyptian Minister of Tourism Wahih Shindi arrived in
SYND Israel on Wednesday only one day after the assassination of
28.8.85 an Israeli diplomat in Cairo. At a press conference in
LN115702 Jerusalem, Shindi claimed the assassination was an isolated
incident, and that the Egyptian government would do
everything possible to bring the killers to justice. Shindi
held talks with Prime Minister Shimon Peres and Foreign
Minister Yitzhak Shamir as well as with his Israeli
counterpart, Avraham Sharir. It is thought that the visit
was conceived as a gesture of good will to ease tensions
following the assassination. During the meetings, Shindi
announced the Egyptian government would drop all restrictions
on tourists travelling from Egypt to Israel.
