Having won the Cheltenham Gold Cup four times and topped the trainers' table for the National Hunt Festival on no fewer than six occasions, Paul Nicholls is always a force to be reckoned with during the most important four days of the jumping year.

This year champion trainer must do without stable stalwarts Big Buck's and Kauto Star as he looks to bring on a new generation of stars at his Manor Farm stables in Ditcheat, Somerset.

Silviniaco Conti has quietly developed into a leading contender for the Cheltenham Gold Cup, while Zarkandar bids for another big Cheltenham prize in the Champion Hurdle.

There is also much promise in the novice hurdling and chasing ranks -- so, despite acknowledging he is the 'underdog' in comparison to rivals Nicky Henderson and Willie Mullins going into Cheltenham 2013, Nicholls has plenty to be positive about, as he tells David Yates.
