On October 30th, 2010, University of Denver hockey player Jesse Martin was hit during a game, breaking his C2 vertebrae. Doctors told him that 98% of people who have a similar injury die instantly. Of the 2% who don't die, 99% are left quadriplegic. Just four months after the hit, Martin talks about the way his outlook on life has changed. Rather than a glass half full or half empty, Martin says "I'm happy to have a glass." About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations) Watch TEDxDU live May 13, 2011 1:00MST at www.tedxdu.com
