GM Khachiyan continues to provide advice on the oft-neglected but always important subject of defense. Particularly useful is his advice on how to respond when you realize you've made a mistake and what to do when your opponent's pieces are becoming active. The important GM v. GM game also demonstrates how you can sometimes win games by purely defensive means from bad positions, due to the optimism or eagerness of the opponent.
