Conway talks Assange, Calif. wildfires, CNN suit

(16 Nov 2018) White House counselor Kellyanne Conway says she has not discussed potential charges against WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange with President Donald Trump. A U.S. court filing is raising questions about whether the Justice Department has prepared charges under seal against Assange. Any charges against Assange could help illuminate the question of whether Russia coordinated with the Trump campaign to sway the 2016 presidential election. Conway says she hasn't discussed Assange with Trump, adding "I have nothing to do with him," but reiterated again that "there was no Russian collusion" with the Trump campaign. Speaking to reporters on the White House driveway Friday morning, Conway was also asked about Trump's trip to California Saturday to visit those affected by the deadly wildfires. Conway said the itinerary is stil being worked out but that the president wants to "see firsthand" the "historic devestaton and loss" and thank the "brave men and women who are running toward the fires" to try to save lives. Regarding CNN's lawsuit against the White House, Conway said the administration's position is clear but added, "as far as I can tell, CNN hasn't had any damages, they're still anti-Trump most of the day." She said a number of CNN employees remain at the White House with press passes intact so she doesn't see an issue. Conway also rebutted reports that the president was upset with First Lady Melania Trump when she called for the firing of deputy national security adviser Mira Ricardel. Conway said the president and first lady "have an excellent working relationship, an excellent personal relationship and by that I mean she is someone who offers her opinion.
