While I was on a trail run at Ascot Park in El Sereno (Northeast Los Angeles area) on November 24, 2013, I ventured off the trail past the six AM broadcast towers on top of the hill belonging to KMPC 1540 AM (formerly KPOL). I ended up on the driveway that leads up to the towers (which are fenced off and live - note: never touch an AM tower, live or not -- best not to take the chance and find out if it's on or not -- you can die or get a NASTY RF burn. Remember, these towers transmit in the range of THOUSANDS of watts of AM RF. These, for instance, carry 37 kW during the day and 46 kW at night) and came across the former Engineer's house / studio. Now it just houses the transmitters, and you can see the various hardlines / heliax going up to the towers on top of the hill. Someone from the station was working in the shack, so I didn't go in. I would have loved to have viewed the Harris DX50 and DX10 main and auxilliary AM transmitters for myself. The top of the hill, which is fenced off, houses the phasor cabinets for the towers, and a little building for two-way radio users.
