Christian parents have the enormous challenge of godly parenting in a cyber age. 

Just when we finally learned how to log in and post to Facebook and Twitter, another 50 new social media apps emerge that we either neither heard of before or we know little about.

Such is the case with such aps as Whisper and YikYak which allow children to transmit secrets and anonymously chat with other children, or adult predators posing as children.

And there are new 'hook up' apps that some consider a virtual prostitution service without the fee. One such app is called Tinder that lets children and pedophiles post pictures and 'flag' photos of people who interest them with a feature that allows them secretly contact each other. To often the picture they saw doesn't' match up with the person they meet. Others include Blendr, Down, Skout, and Pure. A good question is why a sexual hook up site is called Pure?

Oh, and if you think you are cyber savvy by knowing how to check your child's web browsing history, think again. There now are free apps like Kik, Viber and TextNow that allow sending naked pictures or illicit texts that bypass their phone history logs.  

Even if you want to secretly search your child's phone to see what apps they have loaded so that you can do your parental research, only expect to find the apps your child wants you to find because a new app named Poof allows your child to cloak any app your child wants hidden. 

But perhaps the best way to keep your children from becoming ensnared by online temptation is to use a low tech app, called your mouth, your ears and your brain. Talk to your children. Read scripture together and ask them to tell you in their own works what the verses mean and how they can apply them when interfacing in this world, particularly the online world.

And finally, let's remember what the bible had to say about these thousands of years ago that is still wise counsel today. 

Deuteronomy 6:6-8 wisely states: These commandments I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk down the road, when you lie down to sleep and when you wake.
