Join us for a conversation with Abdi Soltani, Executive Director of the ACLU of Northern California, on the work of the ACLU to defend the constitutional rights of all Americans.

The ACLU, founded in 1920, has since built a formidable reputation for defending constitutional rights -- in particular, the right to free speech -- and has been party to some of America’s most famous trials, from the battle over Japanese internment, to the Travel Ban, to landmark cases throughout the civil rights movement. 

In this talk, Abdi discusses the recent work of the ACLU, focusing on how the organization is fighting for constitutional protections for every single American, from right here in Northern California. From the travel ban to family separation, from criminal justice reform to voting rights, this conversation covers a range of issues of contemporary interest. Abdi also delivers beautiful insights into the meaning of the 14th Amendment, how it provides a path to citizenship, and the same time provides equal protection for all - citizen and non-citizen.
