The motive behind the shooting is not yet known.

A state trooper has reportedly been shot dead after a gunman opened fire at a Greyhound bus station in Richmond, Virginia.

Two state troopers were among six people shot shortly after 2.45pm, police sources told NBC 12.

Sources also told the news station that the suspect has been shot dead by police.  

One of the six injured is a female member of the public. All six have been taken to VCU medical center in Richmond.

A SWAT team was seen at the scene minutes after gunshots were heard.
