Bread and Puppet Theater celebrated their 50th anniversary with a special performance at The Sanctuary for Independent Media on Thursday October 17th, 2013. Their show included "King Story," an early anti-war piece which was originally performed in 1967, One of the longest-lived theatrical companies in the country put on an amazing puppet performance! Founded in 1963 by Peter Schumann, Bread and Puppet Theater originally tackled concerns of rent, rats, and living conditions of the neighborhoods of the Lower East Side of New York City. Today, productions have developed into more complex theater pieces, integrating music, dance, and more. In 1974, Bread and Puppet Theater decided to pack up and move from the city to a farm in Glover in Northeastern Vermont. Bread and Puppet Theater has a wholesome and powerful language that can capture anyone's attention--a great form of entertainment for adults and children alike. Bread and Puppet Theater is a necessity; just as bread is food for your stomach, theater is food for your soul. www.breadandpuppet.org www.mediasanctuary.org
