Shooting the 6 stages at the CAPS Club IDPA match Oct 8, 2017. Recently purchased a new H&K VP9 primarily to use as a dedicated competition gun. I replaced the sights with Dawson Precision competition sites. This was was the first time I'd used it in a match. This match was made up of three drill stages and three scenario stages. All but two of the stages required no concealment. I pushed myself this match trying to shoot as quick as I could and still maintain some accuracy. I goofed on Stage 6 which was composed of three strings of fire. The first and third strings were strong and weak hand only respectively and the second string was freestyle. I figured I would be much slower on the strong/weak hand only strings and decided to really shoot fast on the freestyle string. I managed to do so but I made the mistake of not keeping track of my round count and fired an extra shot thinking I'd only fired five of the required six shots. This earned me a penalty and increased my time. Shooting in SSP with an Heckler&Koch VP9 chambered in 9mm Performed under the supervision of a trained safety officer at Best of the West Shooting Sports in Liberty Hill, TX.
