House Minority Leader Marty Seifert says Minnesota is the 4th highest taxed... and then quickly corrects himself to say 4th highest income tax in the country. Rep. Seifert may be technically correct in terms of an income tax rate, but overall according to MN2020.org Minnesota is an average tax state. http://www.mn2020.org/index.asp?Type=B_BASIC&SEC={4445538B-4B8D-4BE4-AF0E-F1C9A1AE36BA}&DE=
Seifert also claims the DFL is "raising taxes on the average person", which again is technically correct since the DFL passed revenue bill includes a drink tax. But the bulk of the tax increase comes from raising the income tax on the 2% of the people who make the most money in Minnesota.
Senator David Senjem proposes the state should borrow money to pay the bills. But Rep. Seifert indicates there is not a huge amount of support for that proposal in the Republican caucus.
