Traditionally, farming is considered a rather conservative industry. The agriculture sector plans long-term, often with generous subsidies. Invstors tend to think in different parameters. That seems to have changed. The global food crisis and astronomical energy costs have pushed the agricultural sector into the spotlight of global business. Farmers in eastern Germany, with some six million hectares of arable land, are reaping the benefits of this development. Many farmers from both eastern and western Germany are making their living in the eastern part of the country. But it is these farmers who might be left out in the cold when the boom subsides.
