This is the first in a series of videos I will be putting up over the next few days. I run a few "mud runs" and adventure races each yer, and I recently bought a Go Pro Hero Camera and have started recording during some of the races. This series of videos is going to be, basically, the whole race, including the boring running parts, and all of the mindless banter that happens on a run when you are tired and cold.. The camera will be shaky, and the lens will be muddy at times. Welcome to Mud Runs! The reason I am posting all of it is there are alot of videos out there, but most only show the obstacles, and not really the whole thing...and what you should really expect, and train for. I think this is the whole race, minus ten minutes or so of me trying to save battery/memory card space. I actually had to switch cards once mid race. The other reason is, this is a tribute to everyone out there who thinks they can, or should, try something like this, or, is just trying to reach a personal fitness goal. My message...you CAN DO IT! I am running in a team of four folks here that all attend my Gym. http://www.ultimatebodystudios.com/ There are 3 of us, and one of our trainers, (Corey). The three students have all been there for about a year, give or take a few months. We all had some serious challenges to overcome. Shane is a naturally thin guy, but was in poor shape when he started at the gym. Now we runs like a steam engine...and just doesn't stop. Crazy Endurance! Frank has lost almost, if not over, 100lbs now. He's also come a huge long way. Amazing testament to discipline. I am recovered from two extreme abdomen surgeries over the course of two years, and when I started I could barely do a single situp due to the damage and scarring to my ab muscles. As a former Marine...the surgeries put a real dampener on my fitness level, not to mention my ego and overall mental well being. That was a year ago. Now, I am in just as good, if not better overall shape then when I was a 21 year old Marine. This is my second long (over ten miles) mud run, though I have done many smaller "sprint" style mud runs, and a few adventure races and Tri-Athlons over the years. These races motivate me in ways that are hard to describe. It's not about being tough, or a "Bad-Ass" really. It's mostly about being ALIVE! You will see hundreds of other folks in these videos running as well, many of whom are not in great shape...but they are my kind of people. The kind of people who want to live every minute of their lives...and not waste it sitting on a couch. So thanks UB folks for teaching me how to eat clean, and workout properly, and reminding me that every one of us has a better person thats just screaming to get out and make their mark on the world! Thanks Ron, Corey, and Trish, my trainers, for helping me get there. For the rest of you, enjoy the video, and to those of you Devil Dogs over-seas....Oh Rah! Semper Fi! As an aside, please forgive my foul mouth! The Marine in me comes out in a big way during these things...and part of that "persona" is my language back sliding a bit. Apologies ahead of time. I'll work on it in future videos.
