(6 Dec 2018) A Palestinian court has extended the detention of a Palestinian-American activist accused of funding "illegal organizations," allegations that she vehemently denies. The Jericho court on Thursday ordered that Suha Jbara, a US citizen born in Panama, remains in custody for 15 more days. Jbara started a hunger strike two weeks ago to protest what she says is unjust treatment by Palestinian authorities. Jbara told human rights organization Amnesty International that Palestinian authorities tortured her, at times depriving her of water, sleep, a toilet, and access to her lawyer. She said that security officials threatened her with sexual abuse and forced her to sign a document admitting to charges which she claims are false. Jbara works an activist in the West Bank advocating for Palestinian prisoners in Israel.
