After finishing with a wonderful half day railfanning trip on the Virar - Dahanu section, my friend Dhwanit and I decided to take the Vapi - Virar Shuttle from Kelve Road to Virar.  

We were waiting at Kelve Road when we saw a BRC WAG-5P heading towards Mumbai coming at full speed.  My friend was convinced that it would skip the station.  However it came to a perfect halt with the Vapi - Virar shuttle.  After boarding the train, we stood at the door and witnessed the acceleration of the monster WAG-5P locomotive.  It picked up speed in no time.  That is when I decided to capture the acceleration and braking of this train.

So what you can see in the video is the acceleration from Saphale station.  Just look at how we start accelerating and reach a speed of 80 - 90 km/hr in just 1 minute and 20 seconds.  Keep in mind this was a 17 coach train with just one locomotive.  And then I also captured the superb braking at Vaitarna as we rumble over the bridge and make a high speed entry into the station.  Finally after departing from Vaitarna I also managed to capture a scenic crossing of another express train on the curve.

It was really a wonderful experience for my friend and I.  And it was also the first time I travelled in a train hauled by a WAG-5P.  The loco really impressed me.  After all, once upon a time, it used to haul heavy goods trains but is now converted to passenger use only.  And also, let's not forget the loco-pilots, who are also responsible for such quick acceleration and braking, thereby trying to avoid delays and stick to the schedule.
