Solving a trig equation where terms involve functions of the angle and double the angle. Note on “etiquette” when the angle is in degrees. 3 techniques are given: 1. Factorizing the equation 2. Graphical solution – only part marks available 3. Simplification of the equation, and considering the two cases. Instructional exercise consisting of question 7 from paper 1 of the 2006 SQA Higher Mathematics exam. Set out in stages of 'try then check' the worked solution to each part of the question. Including indications of where each mark is allocated, and the requirements for that mark, according to the marking scheme.
