The Songs of the Heart: Anosh Irani, Janice Pariat & Prayaag Akbar

Anosh Irani’s novel, The Parcel, was a finalist for the 2016 Governor General’s Literary Award. It was longlisted for the 2017 DSC Prize for South Asian Literature and is currently on the 2018 Dublin Literary Award longlist. His play, Bombay Black, won five Dora Mavor Moore Awards and his nonfiction has been published in Granta and The New York Times.

Janice Pariat is the author of Boats on Land: A Collection of Short Stories and Seahorse: A Novel. She was awarded the Young Writer Award from the Sahitya Akademi and the Crossword Book Award for Fiction in 2013. Her novella The Nine Chambered-Heart was recently published and is forthcoming in the UK in May 2018. It is being translated for publication into six languages including Italian, Spanish, French, and German.

Prayaag Akbar is the author of the award-winning novel Leila. He is a Senior Fellow with Krea University.

The Songs of the Heart
Two accomplished writers speak of their latest works of fiction and the context and inspirations of their books. lndo-Canadian writer and playwright Anosh Irani has published several critically acclaimed novels, including The Cripple and his Talisman, The Song of Kapunshu. Dahanu Road and. most recently, The Parcel. Writer and poet Janice Pariat. from the northeastern state of Meghalaya, is the author of Boats on Land, Seahorse and The Nine Chambered Heart. In conversation with journalist and acclaimed debut novelist Prayaag Akbar, they discuss poetry, theatre, the craft of literary fiction and read from their recent books.

THE JAIPUR LITERATURE FESTIVAL 
Described as the 'greatest literary show on Earth', the Jaipur Literature Festival is a sumptuous feast of ideas.

Past speakers have ranged from Nobel Laureates His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama,  J.M. Coetzee, Muhammad Yunus  and Orhan Pamuk, Man Booker Prize winners Ben Okri, Howard Jacobson, Margaret Atwood, Marlon James, Michael Ondaatje, Paul Beatty and Yan Martel, Pulitzer Prize winners Andrew Sean Greer,  Benjamin Moser, Colson Whitehead and Jhumpa Lahiri, Sahitya Akademi winners Gulzar, Javed Akhtar, M.T. Vasudevan Nair as well as the late Girish Karnad, Mahasweta Devi and U.R. Ananthamurthy along with literary luminaries including Amish Tripathi, Chima¬manda Ngozi Adichie, Vikram Chandra and Vikram Seth. An annual event that goes beyond literature, the Festival has also hosted Amartya Sen, Amitabh Bachchan, the late A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, Oprah Winfrey, Stephen Fry, Thomas Piketty and former president of Afghanistan, Hamid Karzai.

The Jaipur Literature Festival is a flagship event of Teamwork Arts, which produces over 33 highly acclaimed performing arts, visual arts and literary festivals across more than 40 cities globally.
