"It is important to believe in the youth and be there for them. When it comes to inner city kids, or people of color, our society tends to not really care about them until they are in the limelight or in a position of power. Many times, these kids are only pushed through athletics or rap and education is only the thing that keeps you eligible. Sports are what will get them out of the hood, into college and ultimately what will make them rich. Why do they believe this? Because they've never had someone that believed in their other abilities and talents. Many times these kids don't have role models, no one that they can look up to and aspire to be like." About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
