First in a video series of musical exploration videos. Most people know me for my steampunk music as Escape the Clouds, but I wanted to play around outside that box and make some fun, improvised loops. I also wanted to go back to my hardware roots and make music without the use of a computer and software DAW, using strictly music hardware. All the gear fits in a single soft case--hence the name "Beats in a Bag". This first video shows me improvising a light reggaeton-inspired beat using an Akai MPC 1000, a Volca Keys synthesizer, and Volca Beats analogue drum machine. The Akai serves as the sequencer and I use it to trigger the sounds in both Volcas. I sampled the bass notes in the beat from my Kala Ubass ukulele bass and programmed a playable instrument program using the multisample.
