First US Cyclone Aid Reaches Burma

The first U.S. assistance flight allowed by the Burmese government arrived in Rangoon Monday [May 12th], 10 days after Cyclone Nargis ripped through the low-lying Irrawaddy Delta. Two more flights to Burma were expected Tuesday. The United Nations says two million people are displaced in the Southeast Asian nation and that it is critical Burma's military government more quickly accept and distribute international assistance. U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is urging the military government to increase access for international relief efforts, warning that further delays could set the country back years.
