About Mass Effect 3: The story is the "epic conclusion" to the story started in Mass Effect and continued in Mass Effect 2, as well as the conclusion of Commander Shepard's story. 

Throughout Mass Effect 3, Commander Shepard will be bringing the civilizations of the galaxy together as allies to take back Earth and repel the Reaper invasion. The player's choices throughout not only Mass Effect 3, but the entire trilogy, will affect the fate of these civilizations and the endings the player can receive

Mal's Random Musing: So after the success of tremendous RPGs like Baldurs Gate, Bioware set out to create an entirely new LP and the result was a sci-fi action RPG that broke the mold and the record books. A massive (pun intended) success, Mass Effect is a top notch RPG. 

If you enjoy compelling military action stories and/or sci-fi then the story presented in this game should be more than enough to keep you interested. Add in interesting combat, interactions with non-player characters that feel true to life and you are in for a galactic sized adventure.
