Her debut movie was Bhakta Prahlada (1967) where she played a child artist’s role and received National award for best child artist. She acted in all south Indian movies and used screen name Shobana in Malayalam. Among her Malayalam movies, her noted works are Pani theeratha veedu and Chemparathy.

Roja Ramani's most appreciated works were Bhakta Prhlada and Chemparathy (1972). This film was later remade in Tamil as Paruva Kaalam in 1974 with Roja Ramani repeated her role and Kamal Hassan played the male lead. Romantic track, Chakravarthini Ninakku and devotional song ‘Saranamayyappa’ are still popular.
