Hi, I'm Dr. Adam Friedman. I've been asked to answer questions sent in by readers. I thought I'd give a brief introduction about what I do and how I do it. I'm a North American trained Naturopathic Physician, which, depending on what you believe means I'm either a primary care doc, who spends a lot of time with their patients ... or you think I'm a quack. It doesn't matter though because I would encourage each of you to not believe a single word I say. However, if I should say something that sounds like it makes sense, check it out yourself. Do your own research. Conventional medicine is great for specific things, like emergencies requiring heroic measures, but when it comes to chronic pain and illness, not so much. You're an individual and as such, unique. Now I'm not saying you're special. Your general physiology and biochemistry are just like every other homo sapiens. However, the specific makeup of your cells, hormones, bacteria, etc. is different from everybody else. That requires individual attention. I'm also an exercise physiologist. I believe the human movement is vital to health. I prescribe exercise programs for my patients and guide them through the pitfalls and plateaus. Read my latest article on 'A High-Fiber Diet For Jumpstart Weight Loss' - https://www.consumerhealthdigest.com/weight-loss/high-fiber-diet-for-jumpstart-weight-loss.html I also believe that no true healing can take place from the neck down, until you deal with the neck up, first. Therefore, counseling is a big part of what I do. I'm a massage therapist too. There is no substitute for the human touch. I do some other things too, but those are the main ones. My job is to give you the tools you need to reduce or eliminate pain - be it physical, emotional or spiritual. And, to do it with the least invasive measures first. Imagine a therapeutic spectrum, where on one end you've got things like chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery. On the other, things like diet and lifestyle. If we can find solutions to your issues with simpler changes, less powerful force and at the same time gain an understanding of how the issues came up in the first place, we probably won't need the heavier, more potentially toxic measures, that come with their own set of side effects and problems, requiring even MORE drugs to offset the original ones. Now, if you're unable (or unwilling) to make the changes I suggest, I'm perfectly fine moving towards the other end of the spectrum. For example, if I'm treating poor indigenous peoples in Papua New Guinea or Nicaragua, the answer to the issue of malnutrition can't be, "Ok, I want you to run down to WholeFoods and buy all this organic, free-range stuff and take the next week off of work. Oh and I want you to start getting weekly massages and start going to the Y for a yoga class." It's not going to happen. (Unable) Or, perhaps you've got a 6 year old who refuses to eat anything green, except Skittles. (Unwilling) In either case, that person isn't getting adequate nutrition from their diet, so the next level of intervention may be called on for -a supplement. Now we could have started with intravenous fluids and hospitalization but why? Let's try the simpler options first. Ok, that's a little about me. If you're interested, please send in your questions, and I'll do my best to answer them.
