Boulder, CO Dec 8, 2012. The wind howls across the Boulder Reservoir this morning. The wind makes for a strong headwind on the better part of the course. Along with the wind came the cold. That added to the bundled racers and chattering teeth on the starting line.
This is the final stop on this year's Boulder CX Series, race #5. The race provided all of the normal Cyclocross obstacles along with a cold water foot-dip for a more than a few of the racers. The course partly follows the reservoir's edge. Some of the transitions to the water's edge were a little tricky, especially at race speed. Falls and tumbles galore as the sand and too heavy front braking took its toll on the racers.
Lots of sponsors were on hand for today's festive race, which includes BOA, Boulder Cycle Sport, Breeze Bars, Velo Shine, and Rocky Mounts. There was also a huge turnout of racers, 449 racers finished today's Boulder Racing Cyclocross Series course. There were more than 50 bicycle racing clubs along with some 120 plus unattached racers competing in 22 categories. Did I mention mud and a thigh busting run-up, yep had them too.
