So just shortly before crashing (so I don't die at work tomorrow morning) I quickly soldered up the 4-Pin molex connector I hook my cooling/temperature mod onto an external 2Amp power supply and tested the load ~ along with my HDD, my Kinect, WiFi and charge+play controller cable. It still works great.
An explanation to those who don't know why I would power the fans on my Jasper (top left) console off an external power supply:
-- the fans inside that I keep pointing to are actually the Core Cooler v2 by XCM (why I couldn't remember that while filming I don't know) ... They are basically 50mm fans screwed onto standoffs that rest above the GPU heatsinks and blow air into the fins (like a car radiator fan) and then the exhaust fans on the back (stock/oem) vent out the hot air. I had bought the XCM kit with thermometer probes to test the temps which plugged into the DVD power connector. BAD. BAD BAD BAD. This blew a Thermistor on my board.
What is a Thermistor, you ask? ... it's the thing that controls how fast or even if it goes on at all for the vent fans on the back. Yea. The thing that was supposed to make my system cooler didn't do the job. It made it worse. So i wired everything up to one lead and now it's its own circuit led into the PSU.
Now I have one PSU instead of a power brick and a 2Amp plug. If only I can wire up my Kinect.. then I'd be happy, but I don't want to bust that -- just in case. ;)
Hope you enjoyed Pt 2.
