Stock Markets Recover a Day After US Market Plunge

A day after the U.S. House of Representatives rejected a $700 billion financial bailout plan, stock markets around the world held up. The New York Stock Exchange recovered much of its Monday losses, as the U.S. president and both candidates for the office urged action to avoid economic collapse. One new idea the candidates endorsed: raising the limit on bank deposits the government insures. 
And late Tuesday [September 30th], the U.S. Senate cleared the way for action on a financial rescue, possibly as early as Wednesday.
