Ok, so this doesn't mean much to most people, but this old Honda XR 100 dirtbike belonged to my older cousins when I was growing up. As a kid, Jodie and Jamie hauled us through the woods behind their house every time we came to visit. All we ever wanted to do was jump on the dirt bike and go for a ride. People grow up, grow older, develop other interests, and time passes... for the last 21 years or more (to my knowledge) this bike hasn't fired up one time. It's been sitting in under the workshed outside my uncle's house for over two decades. To top it off... I know a LOT of things, and I'm very good at a LOT of things. I know next to nothing about engine work, aside from what most boys know growing up. Specifically I don't know jack-squat about reworking four-stroke dirt bike engines... With a LOT of help via text message phone calls with my friend Tim Pendergrass, I got all the tools and supplies and new parts he recommended to get her working. Between my brother and I, we tore down the frame, ripped off the carb, gutted the exhaust and rear wheels, brakes, etc.. basically everything but the head was removed. After a month of serious googling and a hundred and fifty dollars in parts, we spent the night with a friend working on trying to put her back together and hoping for the best. This was the result... She's been sitting for 20 years. We drained the gas tank and cleaned it out with gravel and a garden hose, replaced the carb, added an inline fuel filter to catch any particulates we missed while cleaning it, drained the engine of oil, cleaned it, added new plugs, and hoped for the best... Thanks for all the help! Check out the final product! Now... off to get new tires!
