Prof Federico Freschi on 'Rhythm and Meaning' exhibition

For the first time, Africa is hosting an exhibit devoted to French artist Henri Matisse, who was born 1869 and died 1954. Matisse was regarded as the greatest colourist of the 20th century and a rival to Pablo Picasso. He was a print-maker and sculptor but many of his much loved works are from his collection of paintings. 'Rhythm and Meaning' exhibition is in its final weeks at Johannesburg's Standard Bank Gallery. It showcases 80 exceptional Matisse works of art. Joining us in studio is South African curator and Executive Dean at the Faculty of Art, Design & Architecture at the University of Johannesburg, Professor Federico Freschi.
