The Royal Albert Hall is one of London鈥檚 most famous performance venues and a major monument of Victorian cultural architecture. Opened in 1871 and named in memory of Prince Albert, the circular building was conceived as part of a wider district devoted to arts, science and education in South Kensington. Its enormous domed roof, terracotta exterior and tiered auditorium have hosted concerts, ceremonies, sporting events and public gatherings for more than a century, including the internationally known BBC Proms.
