A lot of authors want to know how much it costs to publish a book. It's not an easy answer; there are hundreds of options for cover design, formatting, author websites and book marketing. It's important to be cautious, and try to get high quality work for whatever your budget can afford. At the same time, some books have more potential than others and you shouldn't assume that you will earn back your investment. You can publish a book for free, if you learn how to do everything yourself - and sometimes that makes sense, but if you want a bookstore-quality book that's going to support a professional reputation, it's unlikely you'll be able to format and design the book yourself and have it look good.
