An American in East Berlin: in his widely-read memoir «Twelve Years: An American Boyhood in East Germany»,the well-known American writer Joel Agee wrote about the years of his life between 1948 and just before the Berlin Wall was built in 1961. He grew up among people who believed the former East Germany was the fulfillment of a dream. It's an unusual view of the past,as an outsider who was an insider at the same time. ARTS.21 went along with Agee,visiting places he knew in his childhood in Berlin and the surrounding area.
