Construction and urbanization do not have to be very straining to the environment. From solar panel awnings, to vegetation growing in the walls, it was shown that these investments are not only helping the environment, but are financially viable as well, the true manifestation of a win/win situation. Brian Heather, founder of SolTerra, shares how this can be achieved. 

Brian is founder of SolTerra, a company that builds LEED certified sustainable and healthy buildings that bring elements from nature into our built environment. Brian lives this passion through designing, constructing and maintaining environmental technology in our living spaces while demonstrating payback in financial, health, and environmental benefits. Brian created VeraWall™, a patented living wall system that is used to integrate plants and vegetation into the interior and exterior built environment. In 2013 he delivered a TEDx talk on the "The Importance of Reconnecting Our Cities to Nature." Brian has made it his mission to prove that environmental sustainability and financial sustainability can be achieved together and is using the development of mixed use apartments to demonstrate this. In 2016, the United States Green Building Council awarded SolTerra "Project of the Year" for a mixed use building it designed, developed and constructed in Portland, OR.
