The civil rights movement was changing in the late 1960s and early 1970s. In 1989, I was making a television series on the 1960s reflecting on the things that had occurred. My assignment was to create a series that those children of the baby boomers, children of the 60s generation, would watch and understand just a bit about what had occurred and how people felt about it. In other words it was intended for a high school and college audience. This clip presents a portion of the fifth show in the series. 

The first show in the series looked at the 1950s and how it provoked about 40% of the baby boomers to become part of the 60s generation in one way or another. 

The second show looked at the early 60s which was a time of innocence and in the civil rights area, a time of freedom summer and soda fountain nonviolent protests, Martin Luther King, and so much more.

The third show looked at the cultural aspects of the 1960s, the hippies, long hair, rock 'n' roll, marijuana, Buddhism, etc.

 the fourth show looked at the Vietnam War, the antiwar movement, anger in the streets which became more and more violent, and a civil rights movement that moved from nonviolence to more intense and sometimes violent confrontations.

The fifth show looked at the early 1970s, Black power, Stokely Carmichael, Black is beautiful, African-American history being studied in classrooms, as well as the women's liberation movement, the American Indian movement – Native American movement, and more. This is a portion of that program.
